Open RAN - An Opportunity For Disruption, But Is It Ready For Prime Time?

Brought to you by The Enhanced Mobile Broadband Group

Join The Enhanced Mobile Broadband SIG to discuss the drivers, opportunities and challenges for Open RAN.

Registration for this event is now closed.

About the event

Open RAN is no longer just about using open fronthaul interfaces; it is the culmination of industry collaboration that will foster innovation and diversify the supply chain. But, operators cannot continue business as usual and must embrace new automation and software toolsets to drive efficiency.

In this webinar, we shall discuss the drivers and opportunities for Open RAN, as well as the challenges, such as how to manage both legacy RAN together with Open RAN to deliver the next generation networks and address new revenue generating use cases.

You can follow @CambWireless on Twitter and tweet about this event using #CWeMBB.

The Role of the Telco Cloud Platform in Open RAN by Ignacio Gonzalez, Red Hat

Service providers are evolving their RAN to meet changing demands for new and diverse 5G services and applications. An evolved RAN can mean both the disaggregation of RAN functions and the use of cloud technology.

A Telco Cloud Platform is a horizontal cloud platform that can support multiple RAN and Core functions across their network, with zero-touch deployment and operations, leveraging the benefits of cloud economics and choosing software functions from their preferred vendors that fit Service Providers' needs for the delivery of Cloud RAN and Open RAN architectures.

15:25

Technology Readiness Versus People Readiness: A Very Old Story in Technology! by Stefano Cantarelli, Mavenir

Introducing new technology is always a delicate matter and a balance between readiness and mindset. History has taught us: the people are keen to stay with what they have. But Open RAN is changing the paradigm and will disrupt people and organisations. All the forces which are working for and against the new virtualised world.

Leveraging Eco-System Partners For “Best-of-Breed” Open RAN Solution Needs a Differentiated System Integration Approach by Ravishankar Sethuraman, HCLTech

O-RAN offers increased flexibility and avenues to drive cost down by virtue of distributed and disaggregated solution. Given the logical interfaces between the sub-systems are defined and open, it enables the selection of “best of breed” radio components from the open partner ecosystem to build the 5G Radio Access Network. This calls for a differentiated approach for System Integration of open and disaggregated solution from various eco-system partners and ensure interoperability. HCL is a contributing member in O-RAN alliance and has been focusing on the system integration of disaggregated O-RAN solution at large. HCL has established O-RAN integration and validation labs and test automation solution to support engineering and deployment of O-RAN products. In this session, HCL shall outline its O-RAN service propositions and discuss its approach for O-RAN system integration leveraging the ongoing O-RAN alliance contributions and O-RAN engineering projects.
