Finance and Payroll Analyst

Summary

Digital Catapult has an opening for a highly organised and efficient Finance and Payroll Analyst to join our team based in London near King’s Cross/St Pancras. This is a permanent role and we are happy to consider applications from candidates seeking both full time or part time work on a 4 days a week basis. The role will take on responsibilities covering two key areas: finance grant administration and payroll administration.

A large part of the grant claims are related to staff costs and, as such, there is synergy between the confidential nature of the payroll data and the handling of it in both responsibility areas. We are looking for a detail oriented and creative individual, a self-starter, who is comfortable with ambiguity, can multi-task and who can partner well across all levels of the organisation. This role may suit a part-qualified accountant. What You’ll Do

  • In the finance grant administration area, you’ll be responsible for the administrative and reporting side of research and development funding. This includes timely collating and filing of grant claims consisting of billable hours and invoices
  • You will also be tasked with fully managing the documentation surrounding administration of, and payments to, external research partners
  • Managing external grant audits is also a key part of the role
  • The role requires frequent interaction with Internal and External Partners (Project Managers, Technologists, Finance, External Partners, External Audit, External Grant Monitoring Officers)
  • In the payroll administration area, you’ll be responsible for liaising with the People (HR) Team to ensure all payroll changes are captured accurately and in a timely manner and then will liaise with our outsourced payroll provider to complete the payroll process
  • Responsibilities include a monthly review of all changes included in the monthly payroll file (starters / leavers / benefits), reporting to the CFO for approval and preparation of the payroll journals for the Accounting Team
  • You will also be responsible for the P11D cycle and for creating Gender Pay Gap Reports.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent or qualified by in-depth experience
  • Experience of payroll administration is essential - understanding of payroll terminology and requirements to meet statutory obligations
  • Experience with R&D grants administration and claims would be an advantage
  • Excellent data analysis skills with advanced excel including vlookups and pivot tables
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver to deadlines within a fast-paced environment
  • Fluency in standard business software including Excel, Powerpoint and Word
  • Able to engage constructively with internal and external colleagues at all levels and across different departments
  • A self-starter who enjoys taking the initiative and bringing about process improvements and efficiencies
