Quantum Computing Technologist

Summary

Digital Catapult is on the mission to enable the adoption of quantum computing by UK advanced digital technology supply and demand side companies, by accelerating quantum software enabled products and services through to commercialisation. For this reason we are recruiting for our first role in Quantum Computing to support research institutions, start-ups and enterprises to develop real use cases for quantum advantage and to access quantum computing resources available in the UK.

This role will act at the forefront of Quantum Computing innovation and it will provide a great opportunity for the right individual to shape the direction and growth of Digital Catapult in the Quantum computing industry. As a Quantum Computing Technologist you will work on identifying, developing and trialling quantum algorithms in collaboration with other partners, you will design and implement quantum computing testbeds to allow access to the different HW resources in UK, you will be involved in innovation accelerators to support UK start-ups and you will be involved in other Quantum Technology initiatives. The successful candidate will join a 40-strong technology and engineering team, with experience from start-ups, large enterprises and top universities. It is a great opportunity to work at the cutting edge of new technologies, learn new skills and deliver valuable R & D that helps speed up the adoption of advanced digital technologies in the UK.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the development and implementation of innovative Quantum Algorithms and Quantum computing testbed
  • Support in other Quantum Technology initiative
  • Work closely with other Technologists, Engineers and project partners (who are sometimes across Europe) or commercial clients, to ensure successful delivery
  • Share expertise and communicate work in presentations, blogs, technical reports or articles. Evangelise our mission and outcomes with others
  • Continue to develop and learn new technologies, investigate and propose new project directions, trying to put a dent in the universe
  • Work within a team to craft new funding bids or commercial pitches

What We’re Looking For

  • M.Sc, PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline with a proven track record in the field of quantum, quantum information and quantum algorithms, quantum machine learning would be an advantage
  • Proficiency in using version control and reporting systems
  • Professional software development practices (version-control systems, software documentation, developing testing and trouble shooting protocols)
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Experience with object-oriented programming, experience with multithreading in Python,C++
  • Experience and understanding of Cloud Services like AWS or Azure
  • Experience with quantum computing software simulation environments
  • Demonstrated experience in algorithm design and implementation
  • Knowledge of application of quantum technologies, in particular QKD, Quantum sensors and Quantum clocks
  • Comfortable with collaborative and agile processes, continuous integration, working with git, AWS, web services, Docker containers
  • A good communicator with a creative attitude, with evidence of successful innovation projects
  • Experience or interest in prototyping solutions at the intersection of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, IoT Distributed Ledger Technologies or Immersive technologies
  • Creativity to explore new ground-breaking ideas and the ambition to make a difference in the current state of play
  • Excellent analytical and reasoning skills, interest to learn new tools and topics, ability to cope with changing and evolving priorities
