‘Highly versatile Synchronisation Testing and Monitoring Solutions for Telecom Networks’

Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, 2 October 2009 – Chronos Technology announces its enhanced SyncWatch family of hardware probes and software products which can be combined to build highly versatile synchronisation measuring, testing and monitoring solutions.

Traditionally, tracking down intermittent synchronisation problems at the edge of a telecommunications network was very difficult and required very expensive test equipment operated by an experienced engineer over several hours, even days, followed by expert analysis.  The SyncWatch Family from Chronos Technology brings automatic round the clock measuring, testing and monitoring to network, testing at any service delivery point of E1/T1, STM-N and Ethernet traffic to your clients or at any other key node in your core or access network. Additionally in Next Generation Networks the quality of recovered / reconstructed 10MHz, 5MHz and 1PPS signals can now be monitored at any point in the network. If performance degrades below your previously defined acceptable threshold an alarm is generated by the SyncWatch probe. When everything is OK, SyncWatch generates a heartbeat signal confirming the system is working

With improved frequency range and 1PPS feature, the SyncWatch family is currently available in three operating modes, SyncWatch Managed, SyncWatch Standalone and SyncWatch USB.  These solutions are suitable for service providers and suppliers involved in specifying and implementing Next Generation Networks that will use, ACR, PTP, 1588-2008 or SyncE technologies as well as traditional networks.

Operating in a true client-server mode SyncWatch Managed is a highly scalable solution for measuring and managing synchronisation quality across a service provider’s infrastructure right to the edge.   It is a proven solution for mobile operators or large enterprise clients for ensuring synchronisation coming from their own or third party bandwidth suppliers is fit for purpose, enabling them to both police and defend Service Level Agreements. SyncWatch Managed offers the possibility to provide Alarm reporting and alerting to higher level management platforms using SNMP.

SyncWatch Standalone is the combination of a single SyncWatch probe with Symmetricom’s TimeMonitor synchronisation monitoring and measurement application, running on a lap-top or desk top computer providing telecom network operators the visibility and control they need to cost-effectively lower operational costs while efficiently delivering services across a monitored sync network.  SyncWatch Standalone performs continuous network synchronisation monitoring and quality assurance of any link, performance analysis and alarm detection and forwarding.

SyncWatch USB is the combination of a SyncWatch probe used in conjunction with a dedicated USB key. Easy to deploy, SyncWatch USB simplifies the on site tasks required to collect valuable sync data often needed by network operators, managed service organisations, vendors and equipment manufacturers.  The cost of collecting sync data is radically reduced as field engineers without sync knowledge are able to act as the hands and feet of more skilled and often centralised sync experts.  Additionally, if there are no LAN or GSM/GPRS connections available to carry the synchronisation data to where it is needed, SyncWatch USB is an invaluable asset.

The SyncWatch family of products is designed to work with other industry leading Synchronisation test, measurement and monitoring tools such as TimeMonitor from Symmetricom Inc.

Chris Roberts, Business Development Manager for the SyncWatch family of products, said “Any SyncWatch probe can be deployed in Standalone, Managed or USB mode making it an extremely versatile piece of equipment that offers an swift return on investment.
