Rohde & Schwarz UK’s LTE seminars draw capacity attendance

Attendance figures from Rohde & Schwarz UK’s recent seminar series on LTE technology suggest burgeoning UK interest in the wireless standard.

Fleet, UK, December 9th, 2010 —  Over two hundred people attended the seminars, which were held over four days during the first week of November. Organised in partnership with Cambridge Wireless and the Silicon South West cluster, attendees came mainly from the UK’s wireless and broadcast engineering sector and most cited design and development as their primary role.

“That our seminars were fully-booked seems to support our view that investment has returned to the UK mobile development market and that LTE chipset development is well underway, said Lindsay Harris, LTE Product Specialist of Rohde & Schwarz UK. She added: “Given the lively interest and extremely positive feedback from attendees, we look forward to hosting similar events on LTE Advanced at around the same time next year.”

Participants had the opportunity to network over lunch and contribute to the Q&A, as well as view a demonstration of Rohde & Schwarz’ complete LTE test portfolio. Notably, LTE makes use of spectrum previously reserved for TV broadcasting, so a crucial aspect of its rollout concerns how it will coexist with other broadcast technologies. In-depth testing will prove a necessity for both the mobile radio and broadcast sectors, which have a vital role to play in minimizing interference issues between products.

Reiner Stuhlfauth, Rohde & Schwarz’ resident LTE expert and customer training manager, provided an in-depth introduction to LTE, with discussion of uplink and downlink definitions, MIMO concepts, the physical layer aspects of the new standard, power control in LTE and LTE security among the areas covered.
