AND Technology Research launches new ConnectZED ZigBee module

Whilst the world was coping with the banking crisis and the recession, the engineers here at AND have been working hard to produce a range of products branded the Connect Series.

This range of products draws on proven designs and code available through AND’s design and development services.

The first of the products to be launched is the ConnectZED RF module which is attracting much interest from customers aspiring to produce wireless enabled products. The ConnectZED module is targeted at the ‘green’ market and implements the low power wireless mesh networking ZigBee standard. In addition the module aims to provide longer life with small batteries, high reliability and extensive range through the mesh network.

The RF performance conforms to the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and the module can be provided with application ‘Profiles’ as defined by the ZigBee Appliance. It will provide a perfect platform for customers aspiring to achieve connectivity of products which support energy conservation and lower carbon emissions initiatives.

Steven Kear Programmes Director at AND Technology Research says, “I am thrilled with the progress we have made this year on the RF module – we have come a long way”. “But more importantly”, he continues “the interest being shown in this and the preliminary versions of our other ConnectZED products means that 2011 looks like it will be a very busy year for AND.”

ANDs ConnectZED RF module is intended for use with embedded application requiring low data rates and low power consumption. The complexities involved in RF design take this type of technology out of the realms of many design engineers. The main aim therefore is to provide a general purpose, inexpensive, cost effective device which can be slotted in as a component within any design.

The module can be used for a variety of applications, for example:

• Smart lighting, advanced temperature control, safety and security.
• Water sensors, power sensors, energy monitoring, smoke and fire detectors, smart appliances.
• Process control, asset management, environmental management, industrial device control, machine-to-machine communication.
