Dr David Cleevely receives CBE for services to Technology and Innovation

High-tech innovator and Cambridge Wireless chairman, Dr David Cleevely was presented with his CBE by the Queen at Buckingham Palace today for his services to technology and innovation.

David Cleevely is chairman and founder of Cambridge Wireless, the leading not-for-profit industry forum with over 400 business and academic members involved in the development and application of wireless technologies. He is also the founding director of the Centre for Science and Policy at Cambridge University and the founding chairman of the Cambridge Science Centre. His career as an entrepreneur spans over 30 years and includes biotech and high-tech firms such as ABCAM, CRFS, Analysys and Neul. Cleevely has also advised governments on innovation and policy frameworks and in 2001 was appointed to the Spectrum Management Advisory Group, which later became the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board. He also sits on the IET Communications Policy Panel.

“Receiving a CBE from the Queen was an extremely proud moment in my career but a lot of the credit must go to the support from the people I work with,” said Dr Cleevely. “In particular, Cambridge is a very special place with a unique culture and ecosystem that inspires and nurtures innovation and new technology and this honour is a way of celebrating its success. I’m very excited about the work with the Science Centre, which will be a really great place to inspire young people; while the Centre for Science and Policy is working to connect Cambridge scientists and engineers with policy-makers, and vice versa.”

Soraya Jones, CEO of Cambridge Wireless said, “We are delighted for David Cleevely who truly deserves this honour for his outstanding contribution to technology and innovation. Under David’s chairmanship, Cambridge Wireless has grown to be one of the leading wireless networking organisations in the UK, so we are delighted that his efforts and achievements have been recognised.”
