New GSM-R Filter to reduce Interference

A new GSM-R Radio Interference Filter is available from Procom which will solve the potential problems of public mobile signals interfering with rail communications and traffic management systems.

GSM-R Radio Interference Filter Procom announce details of a new product to solve the potential problem of public mobile signals interfering with rail communications and traffic management systems.

The PRO-DDPF GSM-R is a dual duplex protection filter available from Procom. The GSM-R band is used for the train network management services including command and control signals for train data service and voice communication. The frequency bands 876-880 MHz uplink and 921-925MHz downlink are allocated for the operational communication of railway companies.

The European International Union of Railways (UIC) has reported a high number of GSM-R network problems caused by interference from strong public mobile networks. The reported cases show that the interference from the public mobile network transmitters affects GSM-R equipment installed in trains e.g. receiver desensitization, receiver blocking and receiver overload.

As mobile communication systems are evolving along with the general growth in the public mobile networks the amount of interference to the GSM-R band is expected to increase.

Procom has developed a dual duplex protection filter for the GSM-R band that attenuates the interference from public mobile networks and reduces the blocking problems to non-critical levels.

The Dual Duplex Protection Filter is developed by using ceramic technology in order to achieve a low insertion loss and a high level of rejection close to the pass band.

Features of the new PRO-DDPF GSM-R include:-

  • Low insertion loss.
  • High level of rejection close to the pass band.
  • Good rejection of out of band spurious signals.
  • Reduces interference from public mobile networks.
  • Protects the GSM-R Cab radios from blocking problems.
