Cambridge Wireless expansion continues with the proposal of new Automotive SIG
The point is, does the UK industry grasp the nettle, or will other countries use our ideas and capitalise on these opportunities?
An Automotive Special Interest Group will give focus to the specific challenges and opportunities. The data above is provided to demonstrate that the group will have a fertile ground from which to pick its participants locally, but Cambridge Wireless now has sufficient momentum and gravitas to also reach out nationally and internationally.
Why Cambridge Wireless?
From a UK perspective Cambridge Wireless is uniquely positioned to bring together the UK industry. Not only does the East of England have world class innovators in the wireless industry, it is also a hotbed of automotive industry:

- There are about 600 SMEs, employing 30,000 people
- There are 22 Large enterprises, employing 28,000 people.
- 5 OEMs (eg. Nissan, Ford, GM).
- 8 out of 24 UK automotive R&D technologies centres are based here.
- 4 universities and academic institutions have degree programmes for automotive sector (Cambridge, Cranfield, Herts, Anglia Ruskin)
- 3 in-house research centres (Nissan, Ford, Visteon).
