Have your say on mobile phone-based Satellite Navigation Positioning
The Technology Strategy Board accelerates UK economic growth by stimulating and supporting business-led innovation. One such opportunity has emerged in the area of satellite navigation.
The European Commission will hold on 7th May 2014 a hearing with stakeholders involved in providing emergency assistance in response to 112 calls to gather their insights and contributions with regard to the opportunity of enabling mobile phones to determine the caller location using the GNSS - and in particular the European GNSS - and to send it to public-safety answering points (PSAP).
The EC is considering the establishment of a delegated act to set out measures to introduce GNSS capability, and in particular European GNSS capability, in mobile phones so that they are enabled support the transfer of caller location in case of 112 Emergency Calls. This act could enter into in mid-2016. For more information, please refer to the invitation available on _connect: http://tinyurl.com/namqr4c
Please note that you have to register by April 30, 2014.
Given the technical and commercial stakes, this hearing represents a fantastic opportunity to voice your concerns and expectations on the actions to be undertaken by the European Institutions in the coming years to maximise and ensure the market uptake of European GNSS downstream applications.
