Breakfast Networking event: How SMEs can get accustomed to customs - 24th July, Cambridge

Exporting is an increasingly important way of SMEs to reach potential and grow their business. Navigating different customs (as in customs and excise) around the world can be technically challenging, but it doesn’t have to be this way with the right support. This session is free to Cambridge Network members and non-members - all welcome!

This last breakfast networking session before the Summer break will provide an introduction to customs for those considering export for the first time. It will also be useful for those who would like to check that they are doing it 'right' or perhaps just want to swap experiences and discuss best practice with others.

Speakers and topics will be:

FedEx: FedEx will talk through examples of unusual shipments to further illuminate and generate interest in this area as well as educating on the documents to be familiar with (commercial invoices, air way bills, etc), emphasising advice and resources available for businesses to better navigate customs procedures.

Case study - Horizon Discovery: Dr Charli Batley, Group Purchasing Manager Horizon Discovery has expanded rapidly in the last 5 years, both in terms of staff and markets. The company provides products and services to support research into personalised medicine and ships their products all over the world. They will be sharing some of their experiences at this session.

Santander: Richard Arnfield, London & SE Divisional International Director for SME Banking. Richard will cover some of the financial implications to consider when going through customs procedures. He will also give a short introduction to Santander’s Trade Portal and Trade Club, two online services that demystify the challenges of trading internationally and generate contacts with new suppliers and buyers worldwide.
