SIG Champion Wins Award for Role as First Responder
Russell, Senior Network Architect at the BBC said: “I was delighted to receive this Distinguished Service Award recognising my role as a Community First Responder with WMAS over the last five years – both operationally through attending 999 incidents and also for the work that I’ve done on IT and technology – some of which has been implemented by other teams and wider WMAS areas. It’s been great to bring my professional skills to the role as well as the medical side of things. The most moving part of the evening was to see a number of patients – who had technically been dead following cardiac arrests - walk onto the stage (often with their families) to personally present the awards to those who had saved their life. We all carry defibrillators as part of our kit (and receive intensive training from WMAS in their use) .These can make the difference between life and death – as was clearly evident last night.
Russell was presented with the award by Dr Anthony Marsh, Chief Executive Officer, West Midlands Ambulance Service in a ceremony attended by over 300 people.
With all the discourse that goes around in the technology industry it is always inspiring to hear a story of how the latest insights are being put into practice, especially when these practical applications make the difference between life and death. The technological advancements that have been made over recent years on vital pieces of first responder equipment like defibrillators really has meant the difference between life and death for many patients.
Congratulations to Russell and all the inspirational people at last night’s ceremony. To find out more about the event and a list of all those awarded click here
