UK mobile phone coverage 30 years since the first mobile call - UCL expert Professor Izzat Darwazeh interviewed by BBC

Professor Izzat Darwazeh, Head of the Communication and Information Systems Group in the UCL Electronic & Electrical Engineering department, was interviewed by the BBC’s Tim Muffett on 2nd January in UCL’s Aeroflex Wireless Lab.

Are you still struggling at times to get a mobile phone signal 30 years since the first mobile call was made in Britain? 2015 marks 30 years since that first call, however there are still some places in the UK that do not have any coverage and even in towns and cities there are occasionally “not spots” where there is limited coverage. Last month, the government and mobile networks struck a £5bn deal to improve coverage across the UK.
