Cyberair Super Connected Cities Campaign
The Challenge
The Duke of Leinster Hotel is just a 10 minute walk from Paddington Station in central London. An elegant building steeped in history offering 35 rooms with modern boutique comfort. In such a traditional London building WiFi coverage and speeds were inconsistent and at times non existent in certain parts of the hotel.
Built in 1874 and a listed building meant there needed to be a sympathetic approach to reflect the fabric of the building. Being able to blend 21st century technology into an established framework was a key element.
The Approach
Cyberair are an approved supplier for the Super Connected City Scheme. They have a great deal of experience in providing WiFi services to all manner of hotel buildings - modern and traditional. By applying for the grant on behalf of the hotel they were able to deliver much wider connectivity and more consistently.
An initial site visit was enough to document the building layout, assess the optimum positioning for access points and map out cabling requirements. A more detailed plan was then produced and challenged internally to ensure maximum WI-FI coverage.
The Outcome
The costs for all the hardware, cabling and installation were covered by the grant from Super Connected Cities. The hotel signed up to a fibre broadband product on a 24 month contract and the whole process took less than two weeks to complete. Mr Lindars can now download speeds of up to 80Mb and has £3,000 worth of equipment installed from the government voucher. Guests can now receive a strong and reliable signal no matter which floor or room they are in. As a result this has encouraged more business bookings as a result. Mr Lindars has also found the equipment has enabled him to have more control over the hotel network.
