Buck Charge Pump for Efficient 48V-to-12V Power Supplies
The XM981A series from TOREX Semiconductor comprises ultra-thin, highly efficient integrated power modules that combine a 72W charge pump-based buck DC/DC converter and all required peripheral functions into a compact package. The modules operate as a buck charge pump and provide an output voltage equal to one quarter of the input voltage.

Output voltage: VIN/4 (typically 12V from 48V input)
Output current: 6A (single module), up to 24A (4 modules in parallel)

High Efficiency with Minimal Component Count
Only three external components are required for operation, while achieving a maximum efficiency of up to 96.5%. The input voltage range extends from 20V to 60V, and the maximum output current is 6A. This makes the XM981A series an ideal solution for powering a 12V intermediate bus in 48V systems. Compared to conventional inductor-based DC/DC converters, this solution offers significant advantages wherever high efficiency, a small footprint, and a low-profile design are required.
Scalable Through Parallel Operation
The XM981A series also supports parallel operation, allowing up to four modules to be connected in parallel (6A × 4 = 24A). This enables the modules to be used in applications with higher power requirements.
What Applications Are Suitable for the XM981A Series in 48V-to-12V Intermediate Bus Systems?
The TOREX XM981A series is particularly well suited for applications in telecommunications, networking equipment, Power over Ethernet (PoE), industrial automation, medical devices, test and measurement equipment, and LED display systems.
