The Greenshoots Podcast by Appleyard Lees: discussing innovation in parasports with British wheelchair athlete and five-time Paralympic champion, Hannah Cockroft.
Hannah is joined by Appleyard Lees partners Robert Cumming, trade mark attorney and sports enthusiast, and Adam Tindall, patent attorney and engineer, to discuss her athletic career as a British wheelchair athlete, preparation for the games, and the drivers behind innovation in her sport.
In the podcast, Hannah talks about the lack of innovation in her sport over the last sixty-years: “The original racing chair was an NHS ‘bog-standard’ hospital wheelchair which was upgraded to something which looked like a roller skate with two back wheels and two little front wheels,” Hannah said. “There have been few changes made since the sixties, with innovation only really seeing chairs becoming longer and lighter.”
Speaking on her excitement ahead of the games after 18-months of uncertainty, Hannah said: “It's going to be a celebration – looking back at what we've all got through following the pandemic and we're coming out the other side of it.”
