Sales Account Manager

Summary

Plextek is a consultancy at the forefront of business and product innovation, developing and commercialising diverse technologies across a wide range of market sectors. Recent projects include wearable healthcare solutions, smart city technology, advanced robotic systems, sensors for autonomous drones, mobile ad-hoc radio networks and airfield radar. We are the development partner of choice for 300+ major global organisations, government bodies and ambitious start-up companies.

Our work is largely driven by technical development and innovation. You will join a talented team based in our offices in the Cambridge area, working in a friendly but fast paced and responsive environment in an established company with a very strong reputation for delivery.

THE ROLE

As part of our growth plan, we are looking for a Sales Account Manager to join our sales team. Your primary objective will be new business development, identifying customers with potential requirements and marrying them to Plextek’s capabilities within a viable commercial framework. The scope of the role covers all our market sectors except defence.

In this role you will be identifying potential new customers while proactively reconnecting with previous clients and handling incoming enquiries. In collaboration with our technical teams, you will then work these leads up into opportunities that we can bid against – and close these bids.

This role is about selling a capability, rather than an existing product portfolio, so identifying possible opportunities demands a solid understanding of the technical issues involved in a potential application. In order to identify opportunities that fit the company’s skill set, and to hold your own in discussions with technical specialists, you will need a degree (or equivalent) in electronics or software and some direct experience of bespoke product or system development.

In parallel you will be able to demonstrate to us that you have the commercial and interpersonal skills – and ambition – to drive future business through matching our technical capability to client needs. You will have already demonstrated these skills in a customer facing role and ideally have sales experience of design services or bespoke systems relevant to one or more of our market sectors.

A collaborative and professional outlook will help you build relationships based on trust and delivery. You will be comfortable presenting in an engaging style to a range of audiences, confident in leading meetings and will have excellent written communication skills.

You will be organised and self-motivated, structuring your own schedule to prioritise activities that maximise your contribution and productivity. You will be a flexible learner who can rapidly understand new technical topics or a new customer’s business area.

THE REWARDS

In return, we offer a competitive package and a stimulating environment that will encourage you to be your best. We provide all the training, professional development and support that you need to complete your projects. We are a versatile business and are able to support career progression in many dimensions including technical, commercial and managerial.
