New Free Training Course Launched on 5G and 5G-Advanced for Absolute Beginners
Cambridge Wireless (CW) member 3G4G has launched a new free online training course, 5G and 5G-Advanced for Absolute Beginners, aimed at helping students, professionals and non-specialists understand the evolution of mobile networks and the direction of future connectivity.
The course is designed for learners with no prior engineering, programming or telecommunications background. It explains the key ideas behind 5G and 5G-Advanced in simple, practical language, making it suitable for students, graduates, business teams, policy professionals, sales and marketing teams, consultants and anyone interested in mobile communications.
Across five short lectures, the course covers the journey from 1G to 5G, how 5G works in the real world, the difference between Standalone and Non-Standalone 5G, the role of spectrum, 5G New Radio and the 5G Core, and the emergence of 5G-Advanced through 3GPP Releases 18 and 19.
The course also introduces key 5G-Advanced features and use cases, including AI and machine learning, energy efficiency, RedCap and eRedCap devices, positioning, XR, mobility improvements, private networks and enterprise applications. The final lecture looks at satellites, Non-Terrestrial Networks, direct-to-device connectivity and how 5G-Advanced helps prepare the path towards future 6G networks.
