CW becomes accredited CPD provider
16 September 2019 (Cambridge, UK) – CW, the Cambridge-based membership organisation for the technology community, is now a fully certified Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accreditation provider. Delegates at select CW events will be able to claim CPD points and prove to employers and professional bodies that they have kept their skills and knowledge up to date with industry standards. The first event offering points will be the CW Technology & Engineering Conference on 26 September “5G, Satellites & Magic MIMO”.
The packed agenda for this conference reconfirms the technology community’s position as a leading convener and educator for engineering professionals in the telecommunications industry. It features Three UK, Vodafone, BT, Samsung, Nokia, Avanti Communications, CGI and more.
The committee has selected four subject areas for debate:

What has Massive MIMO ever done for us?
High expectations have been set for this emergent technology, so much so that the term Magic MIMO has been coined. But what has Massive MIMO ever done for us?
The first session of the day, sponsored by leading international authority on resilient synchronisation & timing solutions Chronos Technology, will involve experts Erol Hepsaydir (Head of RAN and Devices Strategy and Architecture, Three UK), Anvar Tukmanov (Wireless Research Manager, BT) and Chris Farrow (Technical Manager, Chronos Technology) discussing the significance of Massive MIMO in today’s early 5G rollout and what is to be expected over the coming years.
Non-Terrestrial & Hybrid Networks
There are different initiatives underway to make satellite and other non-terrestrial networks a part of the 5G network with many different mobile operators demonstrating compelling use-cases using drones, balloons and other aerostats. But what challenges are stopping the mass adoption of Non-Terrestrial and Hybrid Networks?
Experts including Jaime Reed (Director, Consulting, Space, Defence & Intelligence, CGI), Dr Yinan Qi (Senior 5G Researcher, Samsung) and Simon Watts (Principal Consultant, Avanti Communications) will give the industry’s vision of satellite integration into 5G, including deep dives into the challenges that need to be overcome.
5G: A Catalyst for Network Transformation
5G has set high expectations in the user as well as operator community. What changes will be required in the network to support growth until the next new generation arrives?
The third session of the day will focus on network evolution and deep changes such as backhaul upgrades and new data centres. It features Antonella Faniuolo (Head of Network Planning, Strategy & Optimisation, Vodafone), David George (Vice President of EMEA and APAC, Sitetracker) and Zahid Ghadialy (Senior Director, Strategic Marketing, Parallel Wireless UK & EMEA) and is sponsored by full lifecycle platform Sitetracker.
Getting ready for the Beyond-5G Era
Many technologies, like full duplex, that were originally intended to be part of 5G were not able to make it into the standards. When will we see them?
InterDigital, one of the largest pure research, innovation and licensing companies is sponsoring the final session of the day where experts Matthew Baker (Head of Radio Physical Layer & Coexistence Standardization, Nokia), Mehdi Bennis (Associate Professor, Centre for Wireless Communications, University of Oulu) and Alan Carlton (Vice President, InterDigital) will explore what revolutionary changes are needed to make Beyond-5G technologies not only fulfil the vision, ambition and use-cases that were originally envisaged for 5G, but to take it a step further and make it a game changer!
